Scooterless!

So if you haven't read my first blog from today, read that. Then read this.

So we went to pick up our scooter, and they said that when they brought our paperwork and the scooter's paperwork to the government office, they discovered that the scooter is made of stolen parts. Many scooter shops would gladly not tell you this and sell it to you anyway, and if it is ever discovered that you own a stolen scooter, then you get in trouble with the cops. But, these guys are cool, and they told us the truth, but they couldn't sell the scooter to us. So they gave us our money back and some cab fare. They also said that they called around some other shops, and they'll have another scooter here tomorrow for us to test-drive and take a look at. They said, no pressure to buy. It's a bit more expensive than this other one we wanted, but we'll go tomorrow and check it out. All their scooters cost a little bit more than second-hand scooters from other shops or independent sellers, but they are supposedly a very good and trustworthy shop, and they speak English. But maybe we can get this second scooter's price down a little (if we like it) since they've caused us some trouble. But who knows. I'm kinda bummed about it, not only because we lost the chance to own a fairly decent scooter and play with it tonight, but we also were going to go on a two-day adventure to Tainan today and tomorrow, but we decided not to go once we bought the scooter. We can go next week of course, but it's sad times that we could have been in Tainan this evening or playing with a new scooter, and now we're doing neither.

But, on the plus side, we bought fancy-schmancy helmets. I think they're a little intense (and a little bit pricey), but it's a small price to pay for your skull and its contents (especially considering our lack of driving experience and the INSANE driving of everyone else here). Since my helmet is white, I am thinking of letting my M class students draw pictures and write their names on my helmet with permanent marker, since they like drawing me pictures so much. That way it's a super-ridiculous/sentimental helmet. But we'll see. So here's a picture of me with my helmet (reminds you of Speed Racer, no?) and me wishing I had a scooter to go with my helmet. And Mike wouldn't let me post the pictures of him wearing his helmet, he is embarrassed. :)

I think your helmet is awesome and Mike is a coward, not letting us see how awesome HE looks in it! Pleeeease, be careful. You are covered by health insurance, right?
